frequently asked questions1. what is vavrek.com? free music. inspiration. love. you can read more on the about page. yes! primarily in the sense of freedom. you have the freedom to copy, modify, broadcast, perform, and even sell this music without my consent or payment, although donations are very much appreciated! all of these recordings are covered by a creative commons license, as well as traditional copyright. this legally ensures that this music will always be free. creative commons licenses are similar to the gnu general public license, which covers free software such as gnu / linux systems and applications, yet it is more suited to material such as music. 3. why don't you go commercial? with the advent of this net, for the first time in history, it is now possible for artists to share art with millions, on a global scale, nearly free of charge. in the conventional music industry, a signed musician often makes as little as a dollar or less for each cd sold. the rest goes to promo, music labels, industry executives, etc. by eliminating such overhead, a musician actually stands a much greater chance to benefit overall. these days, independent online music distribution is simply a better system all around. everyone gets to hear more music, we know that any money we donate is going directly to the artist, and no one is trapped by copyrights that prevent people from sharing with one another. music can then exist indefinitely, not expiring along with any company that 'owns it', as it ultimately belongs to everyone. sharing makes life more fun anyway. mom taught me that. :) every song has an mp3 or an ogg download link. sometimes, you have to hold down the 'shift' key while clicking the link to start the download. also, you can sometimes right click the link and choose 'save as..' to get it going. downloads on a 56k or less modem can take quite a while, anywhere between 15 and 45 minutes per song, depending upon the length of the song and network traffic. if you're having trouble downloading, will send you a cd if you like. first, download some music! here are a few mp3 / ogg players to choose from: xmms :: great open source player for gnu/linux install your choice of player, double click the song file, and everything should work. if you're having trouble, go ahead and send me an email. sure! donate any amount and fill out this form. please remember that you can also download whatever songs you like and burn your own cds. share copies with your friends! :) currently using only free, open source software to record and edit music. please take a look at my free software list. also, check out my system screenshots. 8. who are your musical influences? isn't it obvious? ;) grew up in the woods of northern california listening and singing along to such music as the muppet movie soundtrack, the moody blues, and sgt. pepper's lonely hearts club band, all on record. once eye got a bit older, began listening to beethoven, john denver, then eventually early depeche mode. later, got into bands such as talking heads, midnight oil, the smiths, xtc, and industrial music, such as front 242. throughout my life, consistantly enjoyed different types of folk music, world music (especially indian), electronic music, and classical. when not listening to music, often you'll often simply find me in meditation, walking in the forest, or doing web design. check out my mini musical hall of fame . . . 9. can you tell me more about you? for those who are interested, check out my personal question and answer page. please do. more information :: |
